We’re off to eat dinner with some family, yes a day late, but fun. So it’s not really a statement, that I’m not shopping on Black Friday. (And goodness knows, I’m not opposed to a good deal either, so I may some future year. Maybe. Recall the easily-overwhelmed factor. We’ll see.)
And yet, lately there’ve been many things making me think, about consumerism, about shopping addiction. I’m just going to list a few of them here.
- The 30 Days of Nothing project, back in September. Thought provoking for sure; definitely look at it.
- The Paradox of Choice: why more is less, by Barry Schwartz. Too true – I’m almost done reading this one.
- Not Buying It: my year without shopping, by Judith Levine. I barely started this, and had to take it back to the library. Will be getting it again, for sure.
Well, there’s so much more that could be said, but the real world is calling. Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
